I feel today a sense of gratitude to God for Christian Science...

I feel today a sense of gratitude to God for Christian Science and its literature; for Christian Science because through its blessed ministry I was healed from a severe paralytic attack and led from death unto life, and for the literature because it strengthens and cheers me and keeps me in touch with those who are traveling the same road. Through the study of that priceless work by Mrs. Eddy, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," the Bible has been illuminated to me, its hidden things brought to light. The Bible was always a precious book to me, but it is now much more. Christian Science has been of practical value to me, for it comes into and governs my daily life. For instance, one day I was very much distressed and perplexed, not knowing how to meet a trial I had to face, when suddenly I came upon these words by Mrs. Eddy, "You have simply to preserve a scientific, positive sense of unity with your divine source, and daily demonstrate this" (Pulpit and Press, p. 4). What a load of care rolled away! How I thanked God for the help of her true words.

While healing from the passions—anger, hatred, malice, lust, etc.—is the greater, and more needful work, and one in which I have found Science to be all-powerful and sufficient, yet it is the bodily ills that usually first demand attention, and there, too, Science is never-failing. I have known of the healing of fevers of various types, the injuries resulting from serious accidents, etc., and many maladies that were nameless have faded into their native nothingness, through the understanding of Truth which Jesus taught, and which has been discovered and explained to us by Mrs. Eddy. It is the only true healing, for it is of God. To have a permanent cure, however, we must remember Jesus' words to the man in the temple: "Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee."— L. IRENE D. KING, La Grande, Ore.
