It is with a heart full of gratitude that I send this testimony to tell what blessings I have received through Christian Science. I had heard of it five years before, and had laughed about it then; but I now know that I was only laughing at my own ignorance of it, for I had not investigated it, but had simply listened to what other people had said concerning it.

Some time before I was asked to read the Christian Science literature, I had had a desire to take up the reading of the Bible (which for some years previous I had given up, as I could not understand it), but I had a fear of being laughed at by the members of my family. I now thank God, however, that a way was soon made easy for me. I had always been a member of an orthodox church, and of late years a member of the choir, yet many a time while sitting in church I had cried, for I felt sure that there was more peace and happiness offered us in the Bible than what I was then receiving; but a way was being prepared by which I was to be shown how my wants were to be supplied. The feeling of unrest came upon me so strongly in church that I felt out of place—almost like a lost sheep, having no shepherd; but the dawn was soon to appear.

One day, as I was walking in the town, unable to do any work because of a sprained wrist, a lady whom I knew to be a Christian Scientist asked me how my wrist was, and advised me to try Christian Science. I laughed and asked her what good that would do me, but I accepted some of the literature and began to read it. At first some of the statements seemed to me to be quite impossible, but as Science and Health was mentioned by nearly all the writers, I asked for the loan of it, and began to study it. Very soon a new light began to appear, and I began to see in this book the way to gain that peace and happiness for which I had longed. The lady did all she could to help me in every way, by reading the Lesson-Sermons with me. I attended the church service the first Sunday after receiving the Sentinels to read, and I felt so impressed with the sense of peace and harmony which attended the service, that I felt quite at rest. I soon purchased a copy of Science and Health; and I was presented with a Bible. I was then able to read the Bible without any fear, as since I have studied "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I can understand the Bible and its teachings.
