Lincoln (Neb.) Star

The Bible informs us that all things were made by God, "and without him was not any thing made." "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." If God is the only creator and sin is a reality, then it follows necessarily that God created it. Christian Science denies that sin is a reality in the sense that it is God-created. It is not a part of the "very good" that was the distinguishing characteristic of God's creation. If sin is in truth a part of the real creation; if it is an entity, then it would be known to God, for He saw all that He had made. The Bible, in speaking of God, says: "Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity." Again, "Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?" If God's creative power is infinite, who can thwart His creative will, or defeat His divine purpose? If sin is a reality, then it must enter into His consciousness; be compassed by the divine mind and purpose, which would represent a "kingdom divided against itself," and could not stand. It is logically inconceivable that infinite wisdom and omnipotent power could or would create conflicting laws or forces for the government of His children that would result in the development of discord throughout eternity. If there is a power, a real power that is opposed to God, that would indicate that God was not all powerful, omnipotent.

The Bible teaches abundantly that God is almighty, all power. It is readily conceded by Christian Scientists that according to finite sense sin is real, but they maintain that this finite belief is deceptive and illusional. Christian Science declares the spiritual man to be the real, genuine, true man, made in "the image and likeness of God" (Science and Health, p. 285), and the material, mortal man, so called, to be but a mere belief.
