Freely I have received, and freely do I give my testimony,...
Freely I have received, and freely do I give my testimony, that it may be added to thousands of others, and perhaps help some one who is seeking the light. I hope it may help others to grow stronger in the knowledge of God as the only power when they read what Christian Science has done for me. In April, 1907, I began studying "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, not for physical healing, but because I saw that Christian Scientists had more of the love of God than I had, although I was at that time a church member, and had for years lived up to my highest understanding of such an obligation.
I began to study Science and Health with a determination to get all out of the book that was in it, and since that time I have been healed of various ailments, one being a disease with which I had been afflicted for about thirty-five years, and in all that time I had never found any medical doctor who knew just what to name the trouble; I only knew that the pain seemed to be in the bladder, and that greater suffering could not have been endured. After I had been treated these many years by twelve different physicians, two of whom were specialists, I was finally healed by a Christian Science practitioner in four days. I had suffered from sleeplessness for eight years, and during that time I never went to bed without taking medicine or thinking that if I could not sleep I would take it. Any little exertion or worry caused extreme nervousness, and when I tried to go to sleep without medicine I seemed to suffer terribly with a choking sensation. Of this nervous condition I have been healed through Christian Science I also had an eruption on my hands from childhood, and this, too, has been overcome through the understanding of God. For nineteen years I wore glasses, but soon after I began to read Science and Health I took them off and have never worn them since. Now I can see as well near as far, and can see to do all kinds of fine needlework, and can scarcely realize that I once had to wear glasses. All my life I had suffered with distressing headaches, and it seemed as if I was taking medicine and going around with my head tied up half the time. This cure has been so noticeable that a friend who is not a Scientist said to me, "I miss the Mrs. Prinnell who went around with her head tied up."
With the little understanding of this healing truth that I have gained, I am able to help others, and am learning what these words of the great Teacher mean: "It is more blessed to give than to receive." For all these and many other demonstrations of the truth I am more thankful to God, and to our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, than tongue or pen can express.
