Our critic admits the power of mind upon the body,...
Journal and Courier
Our critic admits the power of mind upon the body, but undertakes to depreciate and ridicule the teachings of Christian Science on the ground that they are not new. We quite frankly admit that the truth of Christian Science or scientific Christianity is not new, but we do maintain that to Mrs. Eddy belongs the credit for having rediscovered Christian healing as taught and practised by Jesus and his disciples. The sole reason for not accepting the undivided garment of Christian healing as taught by Mrs. Eddy, and in a measure demonstrated by her followers, is that the truth demands of its adherents "to cut off the right hand" and "to pluck out the right eye;" that is, to renounce material ways and means, to overcome the false pleasures and appetites of the material senses, and to leave all for Christ, Truth.
Would it not be well for those who are tempted to reflect upon Mrs. Eddy and her teachings to consider how many centuries divine healing was lost to the world, and how many more centuries it might have lain dormant had she not struggled bravely on against a doubting, discouraging pulpit and press to the consummation of a system which has given proof of its divinity by the numberless cases of healing, both physical and moral, produced by the beneficent and spiritual influence of Christian Science?
To-day a great army of intelligent men and women of every profession and walk of life bear loving testimony to freedom from the ills and discords of the flesh, to moral and spiritual uplifting through the teachings of Mrs. Eddy, and humbly and lovingly acknowledge her as their teacher and Leader.
