A complete scheme of uniform railroad accounting has been worked out for the Interstate Commerce Commission by Professor Adams of Michigan University. He has also enlisted the railroad authorities of Canada, Great Britain, and France in his system; Canada has adopted it in toto, and it is now applied to all the railroads there; Great Britain's Board of Trade is working out preliminaries which are likely to lead to its adoption there; and the French authorities are studying it with reference to a like conclusion. Its general adoption would make it possible accurately and intelligently to compare railroad statistics from many different countries.
In the athletic section of the Olympic games of 1908, just held at London, Eng., representing the world's championship track and field, the athletes representing the United States won fifteen first prizes out of a possible twenty-seven. On a basis of five for first, three for second, and one for third, the United States athletes scored 114 1-2 points, Great Britain and Ireland combined scored 66 1-3 points.
The War Department has awarded the contract for the supply of 1,125,000 yards of khaki for the new uniforms with which the Army is to be supplied, to two New York firms. The new khaki is from one to one and a half ounces lighter than the old khaki. Besides, the texture of the cloth is more porous and removes the objections which have been made against the old material.
