It is about four years since I began the study of Christian Science, some literature having been sent to our home by a Scientist in a near-by city. I had never heard of Christian Science before, and did not know what good results would come through its study in connection with the Bible, but in reading some of the literature I learned that people had been healed through such study. I was much in need of healing at that time, and was willing to try anything that promised relief. I had tried medicine of all kinds, also electricity, and was using remedies every day for chronic stomach and bowel trouble. I visited several medical men in my own and other cities, who did the best they could for me; but one of them frankly told me that drugs could not reach my case. These troubles, however, were nothing as compared with an almost unendurable state of melancholy from which I was suffering.
I applied for Christian Science treatment with little or no faith that any benefit could come from it; but as a drowning man grasps at a straw, so I asked for help. The bowel trouble completely left me after a week's treatment, and I have had no return of it. The stomach trouble did not yield quite as quickly, but it finally disappeared. The overcoming of the mental depression has been slow, but I am practically healed of it now. When it does appear, which is rarely, it is quickly dispelled by an application of the truth as found in the Bible and explained by our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." I am positive that with continued work along the same lines all other troubles will be overcome.
I certainly feel grateful for all these blessings, but greater than all else is the spiritual and mental enlightenment which has come to me. I can honestly say that everything I am to-day I owe to Christian Science. My health is better, and I am happier than I ever before remember. With all this I have learned to love more, to look always for the good in everything and everybody, and to overcome the sense of evil. Christian Science has enabled me to obtain employment everywhere I have been, and to advance rapidly both in position and salary. I am truly grateful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, through whom this truth was revealed. My desire now is to help others to escape from the bondage of sin and disease, and it is with this hope that I write my testimony.—Roy F. Baillie, Seattle, Wash.
