THE LECTURES

Bicknell Young of Chicago lectured in the Auditorium, Thursday evening, April 9, to a very attentive audience of nearly three thousand people. Judge C. T. Dickinson, formerly judge of the District Court, who introduced Mr. Young, spoke in part as follows:—

Eighteen months ago I was ignorant of the teachings of Christian Science. Within that period of time, by studying the Bible in connection with the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, there have been revealed to my consciousness some of the beautiful truths taught by this Science, the knowledge of which has changed completely my manner of thinking and living. "Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." I have demonstrated to my entire satisfaction the truth of Christian Science.

Forty years ago there was but one Christian Scientist in the world, and that one was Mrs. Eddy; she stood alone with God, her Father, the divine Principle of her being. With her mind firmly fixed on divine truth, and with her heart filled with love for mankind, she went forth bravely to teach this grand truth and by it to master and overcome error, sin, sickness, and disease of all kinds; to do as commanded by Christ Jesus: "Preach the gospel;" "heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils." As a result of the labor of this woman, to-day this gospel of Christian Science is preached all over the world, and with these signs following: The sick are healed, the blind see, the deaf hear, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, devils are cast out, and to the poor the gospel is preached. Today there are more than eight hundred churches, with hundreds of thousands of adherents and believers, and great advancement is being made throughout the world.
