As far back as I can remember I had generally been...

As far back as I can remember I had generally been ailing, and when I reached manhood my sufferings increased so that life seemed not worth living. I tried many remedies, and "suffered many things of many physicians," but was not benefited. At last, one day, frantic with pain, I decided that suicide was the only remedy. Then, like a ray of light, came the recollection that I had heard a gentleman speak of the wonderful healing he had received by reading a book, so I decided to ask him about it. He loaned me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and I set to work earnestly to study it, as it was my last hope. The understanding of the teaching it contained came steadily, and just as steadily came the healing. As naturally as darkness gives place to light, serious physical ills, also the appetite for tobacco, to which I had been a slave for years, and other evils, disappeared.

Some time ago our little boy awoke one night making a peculiar noise. His mother said he had a dreaded throat trouble, accompanied with high fever. I sat by his side for about half an hour, treating him according to the teachings of Science and Health. The child went to sleep, and when his mother came to look at him the feverishness had disappeared, together with the disease, and he has never had it since. This is only one of scores of proofs which we have had of the practical value of Christian Science. I had known but little of the Bible in my early training, but I can now read it understandingly, and continually have proofs that to understand the Bible spiritually, in the light of Mrs. Eddy's teachings in Science and Health, is to rise above all the ills of the flesh and to enter into the kingdom of heaven on earth.
