Chicago (Ill.) Examiner

Mrs. Eddy, who is a peaceful woman and unused to war's alarms, has put herself squarely on record. Primarily she is opposed to war. to cannonading and slaughtering and to all the hideous results of battle. She admits that she has exercised all her privileges and powers against war, both in prayer and precept. But inasmuch as neither prayer nor precept has totally availed thus far to put and maintain the world on a peace footing. she believes in being ready for war when it comes, and to this end she urges the strongest armament possible. both as a deterrent and as a means of self-protection. . . . Mrs. Eddy very properly would pray for peace even while she would strengthen the navy. A sensible conclusion very sensibly put forth. Hoping for peace should not interfere with necessary precautions for the early procurance and enforcement of peace.
