It is with great pleasure that I testify to the blessings I have received from Christian Science. I was led to investigate its teachings at a time when I was in a very despondent mental state, owing to ill-health and conditions which seemed to be such that I had no hope of happiness in this world. I was also in constant fear of death, having undergone an operation the year before, from which I seemed to be recovering rapidly for a time, but afterwards old troubles returned and I was plunged into greater despair than ever. I searched the Scriptures for comfort, but their perusal seemed to cause greater distress if possible. I was persuaded by a friend to read some copies of the Christian Science Sentinel, then "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy. I became so much interested that I began to ask questions of my Scientist friends, and having been told of some cases of healing, which I thought were wonderful if true, I decided to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," a book against which I had always been warned as dangerous and pernicious. I borrowed a copy, reading it eagerly for the greater part of one day and evening. The next morning I went to see a practitioner to ask for treatment for a cough which had not yielded to material remedies. After one or two treatments the cough was of minor importance to me, for I was so rejoiced to "know the truth;" to learn that "the Christian Science God is universal, eternal, divine Love, which changeth not and causeth no evil, disease, nor death" (Science and Health, p. 140). The cough soon vanished, also stomach and bowel trouble and a throat trouble of years' standing. I had been subject to a severe cough nearly every winter, and sometimes in the summer, for months at a time.

I have used no material remedies since my healing in March, 1906. I had for over twenty-five years been a member of an orthodox church, which I dearly loved. As I was fully convinced of the truth of Mrs. Eddy's teachings, I asked for a letter of dismissal from my church and united with the Christian Science church in July, 1906. Although I have had many seeming trials to meet since I began the study of Christian Science, I feel that I am gaining little by little and am able to demonstrate in part for myself and little girl of seven. I am most grateful for the spiritual uplifting, and for the illumination of the Bible, which is a new book to me. I am very thankful to Mrs. Eddy for her wonderful book. The more I study it, and understand and put into practice what I learn from it, the more my gratitude to its author is increased.
