Jesus said, "I will not leave you comfortless;" "I will...

Jesus said, "I will not leave you comfortless;" "I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever." A number of years ago I was treading the wine-press of persecution, walking through the valley (depression) of sorrow, plunging into the wilderness (darkness) of despair, and when I turned blindly to the Bible for help. I used to read these words over and over and wonder why, if God was ever going to send the Comforter to me, it did not come now when I was in such distressing need. When Christian Science was brought to my notice I immediately felt that the way to relief from my terrible sufferings was opened. I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," studied it, and slowly the light began to appear, though very dimly at first. Gradually I began to see that nursing self-pity and wounded pride was one of the greatest of sins, and also to see the unreality of everything which is not good. I had found the blessed Comforter, Divine Science.

I had always tried to look to God for help, but my spiritual vision had been dimmed. I had failed to understand; but now I was learning how to trust God, and when illness was apparent I found I had no faith in any other physician. Last spring I had a serious attack of brain fever; no one thought I would live. Much criticism prevailed because we did not wish a doctor, and great prejudice was manifested, but the practitioner, a student of our beloved Leader, fully comprehended the situation and fearlessly worked against error in all its different manifestations. The fever turned after five days; then unavoidable excitement occasioned a relapse, and I seemed worse than before, but Truth was triumphant and the fever was gone in five days more. From that time recovery was rapid, serious conditions being quickly overcome. Those who were with me felt that I came very near passing on, and my restoration to health was wonderful to mortal sense.

Words fail to express my gratitude for physical healing, but even that pales into insignificance when compared with the grand spiritual uplift received through Christian Science. My constant prayer is that I may advance a little farther each day in the path illumined by our noble Leader, wherein I have been able to touch the hem of Truth's garment. —
