Christian Science does not "ignore" suffering, sorrow,...

Sioux City (la.) Journal

Christian Science does not "ignore" suffering, sorrow, or sin. but recognizes this triad as part of the experiences of the "carnal mind," which must be overcome in a Christianly Scientific way, in accordance with the method established by Christ Jesus. It is very clear to the Christian Scientist that no error can be overcome by ignoring it. He recognizes that to the one who entertains a sense of suffering. and who believes in the reality of sin and indulges it, these things are very real and seemingly powerful; it is therefore the effort of the Christian Scientist to bring about that condition of thought which destroys both sin and suffering. St. Paul said, "To be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." Sin and suffering are experiences of the "carnal mind, " and are overcome in proportion as one has that Mind in him "which was also in Christ Jesus. "

The most prominent feature of Christian Science is its steadfast insistence upon the fact that God's creation, including man, is perfect, harmonious, and eternal, and its consistent effort is to bring this fact to the consciousness of each individual.
