When I was a comparatively young man, an injury was produced in my left side from overstraining, and ten years later an accident caused the same trouble on the other side. This was an afflication indeed, and from it I suffered for twenty-five years. I had never heard of a case like mine being cured, and the only remedy the physicians offered was to fit me with a truss to support the injured parts. I never arose in the morning until this was in its place, and never removed it until I retired for the night. All these years life seemed a burden with no hope of relief.
Until 1899 I had never heard of Christian Science. It was in the spring of this year that my attention was first directed to it by the successful treatment of my wife. I became very much interested in its beautiful teachings, and by the word of Truth spoken to my consciousness I was healed. Seven years have passed since then, and I am still rejoicing in my freedom from suffering with never a hint of its return. I was also healed of throat trouble. At the time of my healing I was working as clerk in the city health office, and when I told the health officer of my relief, he and several physicians associated with him declared that it was most remarkable. These men were my friends, and knew my previous condition because they had made examinations of my trouble and would gladly have offered some remedy to help me had any been known to them.
Christian Science has been to me in all these years a "gem of purest ray serene," and daily my heart is filled with deepest gratitude for the many blessings I have received from its glorious light. I am proud to acknowledge that I am a Christian Scientist, and have identified myself with Second Church of Christ, Scientist, of Houston, Texas.
