[Written for the Sentinel.]

GOD WITH US EVER

I wait no more, with anxious care,
For stated place and times of prayer;
All hours are mine to worship Thee,
All places temples wide and free.

Nor need I search for secret place
To hear Thy voice and see Thy face;
I am as much alone with Thee
As if the world held none but me.

As roughness on the rocks we climb,
Gives safe ascent to heights sublime,
So cares that seem to keep from Thee,
Sure stepping-stones to heaven may be.
