The fact that we see to-day, as the critic himself affirms...

The fact that we see to-day, as the critic himself affirms, "many intelligent men and women" seeking Christian Science, is possibly no more "surprising" than it is significant, and is in itself a strong argument in support of our contention that the Rev. Mr. S. errs, as is invariably the case with critics of Christian Science, in his conception of Mrs. Eddy's teaching. Paul indeed preached the resurrection of our Lord, and Mrs. Eddy lays no less stress upon it than did he.

Christian Scientists very reasonably concede the difference between our Lord's clear spiritual grasp of the truth which resulted in instantaneous healings and their own poor efforts to emulate the same, but they justly maintain that an honest though feeble effort at compliance with his specific command to heal the sick is, to say the least, commendable, finding a gratifying degree of consolation in his promise to every true follower, "The works that I do shall he do also," augmented by a degree of success that is already commanding attention. Those redeemed through the benign agency of Christian Science teaching are already numbered by the hundreds of thousands. Those who come to Christian Science for help, furthermore, do so, in the majority of cases, only after all else has failed.
