I am desirous to tell other sufferers something about the healing effected by simply reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. For upwards of twenty years I had suffered from time to time with severe rheumatic trouble and lame back, and the last four or five years I was compelled to wear a flannel band around my waist day and night. For many years I suffered at times intensely from liver complaint, and was attended by three different physicians, who each pronounced my malady incurable. The last one who attended me declared that I could not live more than three months at most. This was in 1901, and just at the time when Christian Science was first presented to my wife. I at first regarded the subject as nonsense, but took up Science and Health and read it carefully to ascertain for myself what it all meant, and in a very short time (I know not exactly when) I realized that I was healed. My diseases all disappeared, and I cast off my flannel band. From that day to this I have not only never had a return of these complaints, but not even a reminder of them. I had also been an inveterate smoker since my youth, but while I was reading this book (about the first week of my study) my pipe became nauseating to me, and since that time I have not smoked nor had any desire to do so. All my old friends tell me that I look twenty years younger than I did five years ago, and I can conscientiously state that I feel it. I used to be a scoffer and almost an infidel, but now my whole thought has been changed,—in fact I have been healed mentally as well as physically. I enjoy robust health and untold happiness.

I cannot find words to express the deep and sincere debt of gratitude I owe to our revered Leader for enabling me to discern the truth and prove beyond a doubt that Christianity is practical and that the kingdom of heaven is really "at hand." I sincerely trust that the experience which I have narrated will arrest the attention of some who are at present in a state similar to that which I so long endured; and that they may, like myself, be healed in body, renewed in mind, and made happy.
