In 1904 I began the study of Christian Science, and it...

In 1904 I began the study of Christian Science, and it would take considerable time and space to tell of all the blessings I have received through this study. I was diseased both in mind and body. Physicians had failed to help me, except temporarily. I had been through an operation, which left me in a worse state than before it was performed. Two physicians had agreed that another operation was necessary before I could expect to be well again, but two others advised me not to undergo another on account of the ill effects which might result from it, and one doctor told me that medicine would do me more harm than good. I did not know where to turn for help.

At this time Christian Science was presented to me, and I went to see a practitioner. She told me something of this truth which heals all our diseases, and my burdens began to lighten from that hour. I commenced the study of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and this gave me a new understanding of God. Here I would say that I had been hungering and thirsting after righteousness, for something better than I had known, and I had earnestly prayed for light. I have since learned that if with all our hearts we truly seek Him, we shall surely find Him. One after another of my ailments left me,—bowel trouble of long standing, weakness of the heart, and extreme nervousness. A great sense of fear has also been almost entirely overcome. Before coming to Christian Science I was never without medicine in the house, now I have no physician but God.

I am very grateful for all that has come to me through Christian Science, grateful for better health, and most of all for a better understanding of God, which helps us to overcome not only physical ills, but everything that is not Godlike. When I think how much Christian Science has brought to me, I realize how great is the debt of gratitude I owe to Mrs. Eddy, our dear Leader, and my greatest desire is to so live that I may reflect in some measure this light of truth which she is ever reflecting, the truth which makes us free.—Mrs. Cora E. Lucas, Pasadena, Cal.
