In the statements made as to the cause of attack...
Oskaloosa (Ia.) Herald
In the statements made as to the cause of attack upon Christian Science, one can readily see the animus of the proposed opposition. This is not a new thing in the world's religious history. It finds its prototype in the attitude taken by the chief priests and leaders of ecclesiastical monopoly in Jesus' time, which impelled certain elements of human thought to the crucifixion of the one who brought to the word its message of salvation from sin and sickness. If, as stated, many intelligent thinking men and women who are prominent in various denominations are leaving the same to unite with the Cause of Christian Science, it is because Christian Science offers them something which is evidently more satisfactory to their religious cravings than they have been enabled to find in their former church connections. This is a time of practical things—outgrown and outworn ecclesiastical dogmas and creeds are no longer sufficient to satisfy the enlightened religious thought of this age. Christian Science has presented to the world a satisfactory, reasonable, logical, and practical teaching of Truth, and the fact that intelligent people in and out of the denominations have accepted it and found peace within its borders is significant in itself. It is perhaps needless to say that no effort, whether organized or unorganized, whether in the open or subtle, can ever overthrow a positive and demonstrable teaching of Truth. If, as stated, the Church has failed to meet or "forgotten" to meet the practical needs of its membership, "the Church" should take pattern by Christian Science, which is meeting those needs and presenting to the world the teachings of our Master in their completeness.
