It is with a heart filled with love and gratitude that I...

It is with a heart filled with love and gratitude that I write of what has been a help to me. About eight years ago I was healed of a severe spinal and nervous trouble through Christian Science. I had been given up to die, after having been under the care of the best doctors in Washington, D. C., and other places. For sixteen weeks I had not left my room, but after two treatments in Christian Science I was up and dressed and went down two flights of stairs to breakfast. I gained strength slowly but surely, although I was sometimes discouraged, as I thought I could not understand Science and Health and depended on the practitioner. After I was strong and well I studied our text-book, and at times seemed to understand some of the great truth it contains. I had some beautiful demonstrations of Truth's power, but as yet had no intense desire to get more and more understanding. Last summer the trouble manifested itself in an aggravated form. I took treatment and read Science and Health, but did not seem to improve much. In the fall I had a very trying experience, and while the later grief and disappointment seemed terrible, yet I was thankful for the joy and happiness which I had experienced, and I learned a lesson of love. I had longed to understand Love, and in passing through this experience all sense of hate or dislike, or lack of forgiveness, disappeared, and since then love for others has been easy to realize, and I have studied, loved, and understood Science far better than before. I have had trials to overcome, but I know God is giving me the victory. I must know the truth if I would be free, and I know Christian Science is the truth. The overcoming of many ailments through what understanding I have, has proved to me beyond a doubt that Christian Science is all true and that any seeming failures are due to a lack of understanding and faith.

The spiritual help is more than words can express, and the freedom from worry and fear of the future which Science has given to me, is worth everything. I am thankful to God, who has blessed us so abundantly, and also to Mrs. Eddy. The testimonies in the Sentinel and Journal have been a great help to me, and I hope that what I have written will help some one else who is struggling to reach the light.—Mary Greene Ikenberry, Adel, Ia.
