It is with the deepest gratitude to God, and to our Leader,...
It is with the deepest gratitude to God, and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, that I send this testimonial of healing. Eleven years ago my eyes were healed through Christian Science, after I had worn glasses for a period of four years. Nervousness figured largely in the case, and I was able to read but a few moments at a time. I was also unable to use a needle, as I would see double. I was fond of decorative art, and asked the oculist if he thought my eyes could be relieved sufficiently so that I might resume that study. His reply was stern: "You need never hope to paint another storke." Three specialists, high in their profession, had been consulted, glasses adjusted, and changed every few months, but all of no avail—no favorable results. The verdict was that I would never be able to use my eyes without glasses, and at best the glasses gave very little satisfaction, as I was almost as helpless with them as I was without them. I was under medical advice the greater portion of this time, but gradually and continually grew worse, until I hesitated to go into company or to meet strangers, for I was very sensitive as to the disadvantage under which I appeared.
This failure to restore my eyes through human means reminds me of a passage from Psalms: "Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man." Through Christian Science my eyes have been wholly and permanently healed. I have not worn glasses since I began Science treatment—eleven years ago—and have used my eyes with perfect freedom for all purposes; I have also gratified my desire as to the resumption of my art work. I have accomplished much in that line; at times working late at night. I had Science treatment for three months, but at the expiration of that time I did not consider my eyes entirely healed. The perfect healing came, however, within a few weeks, and it has been permanent. This shows that God's work stands, and according to Scriptures, "Affliction shall not rise up the second time." This is but one of the many proofs we have had in our family of the allness of God. I am grateful for the physical healing, but far more grateful for having the spiritual way disclosed.
Words are inadequate to express my thankfulness for having been led into this blessed truth, and I realize more fully each day that it is the truth.
