Four years ago I first came to the understanding of Christian Science through the healing of my eldest son. He had been ailing for some time, and we had taken him to two different physicians, but he seemed no better. At last he was confined to the bed, and besides the trouble under which he had been laboring, he was taken with throat trouble. The doctor was called again, and when he made another examination he said that there was a serious trouble of the spine, and that all I could do was to place him under some good physician's care, that he himself knew of nothing that would help him. My boy was at his aunt's at the time, and his little cousin was being treated through Christian Science. She was doing so well that my boy said he wished he could have the same help. I then asked the Scientist to see him. That night he got up and ate supper, and next morning he came home with me, a distance of twenty-six miles. The doctor had said that he could not come home for at least three days, and then he must keep quiet. When he got home he went out coasting and seemed to get stronger. He has had none of his old trouble since. We live on a farm, and he and two younger brothers do nearly all the work.
About a year later a younger son was taken very ill. The doctor called it a serious lung and bowel trouble. We then asked the Christian Science practitioner to take the case, as the child preferred this treatment. He got along nicely at first, although we met with great opposition from his father. Later there seemed to be a relapse, and we sent for the Scientist. When she arrived he seemed very bad, but she had been here only a few moments when the fever left, and although appearances were very alarming, in a short time he was better and the fear had left me. He gained from that time on, until his strength was restored; and he is now the largest and strongest boy we have.
We have been able to demonstrate the truth for ourselves a number of times by reading Science and Health, which has truly been our guide to the Scriptures. We are grateful to God, and to Mrs. Eddy for that dear book, the reading of which has made it possible for us to experience the help of Christian Science by patient and persistent work, and thus break the spell of error.
