FRAGMENTS
In reading one of the letters to our Leader published in the Sentinel, some inspiring thoughts came to me which led to the question, What are the "fragments" that remained after the feeding of the five thousand? Some weeks later the answer came in connection with work which seemed almost unprofitable and needless, but which came in the form of duties that some one must undertake. I asked myself, Are not the fragments which the multitude rejected as worthless and insignificant, the opportunities of service for which we may receive no thanks, and for doing which we may even be despised? This thought led to another. What is it that makes a home in the real sense? Is it not those little nameless sacrifices which cannot be paid for, which are not acknowledged to be the special duty of any one, sometimes only the loving touch added to work which has been considered finished? Then came the thought of a home of which the owner said, "I never think of it as my own." It was a home like that which Jesus provided for his followers. Wherever he was, there was a home,—on a mountain, in the wilderness, or on the water. Wherever the Master was, there was the sense of safety, Plenty, and protection,—the consciousness of the infinite love of the Father-Mother God for all His children, and tender care for even those who were quite unconscious of the blessings they were receiving.
By sharing her letters with us, as well as in a multitude of other ways, our Leader is feeding thought with the "bread of life," and is thus strengthening feeble hands in their efforts to supply their own and others' needs.
