Christian Science came to me about seven years ago,...
Christian Science came to me about seven years ago, when I was in the depths of despair, having found no help in medicine. Then I turned to the one Mind, God, and was healed. From childhood I had been called very delicate and had taken a great deal of medicine. As five of my family had passed away with lung trouble, this gave me great fear for myself; and the trouble was soon manifested. Finally I called upon our family physician for an examination and his candid opinion. He told me there was a very serious affection of both lungs, and said that with my family history he could give me little hope. I had been a member of an orthodox church for several years, and was honestly searching for God, often lying awake all night to pray for forgiveness and a release the mental trouble, though without any expectation of physical help.
My first relief came from a friend, who knew just enough of Christian Science to deny silently my appearance and condition without mentioning Science to me; but I began to feel well and happy, and believing that God had healed me, I testified to this effect in a church meeting. About that time I was called upon to take care of a niece, who passed away with lung trouble. Having then no knowledge of how to protect myself, all the old symptoms reappeared, but I asked for help in Christian Science and received it very quickly. I began the study of Science and Health, where found the "Key to the Scriptures," and the healing truth that gave me a sense of the peace that passeth understanding. Other ailments were overcome, among which was an ovarian trouble for which I had been ordered to have a surgical operation.
Our home, during these seven years since my healing, has been like a new place to us. Christian Science has brought us help, physically, spiritually, and financially; and by helping others as I have been helped, I am trying to express in deeds my gratitude to God, and to dear Mrs. Eddy.
