In coming to this country, fully thirteen years ago,...

In coming to this country, fully thirteen years ago, from Edinburgh, Scotland, I had an unexpressed desire to know God so that our prayers should be answered, being weary of what seemed to me a very mechanical religion, and I could never be reconciled to the formality of the orthodox sacrament. Nearly eleven years ago I found Christian Science, and on opening "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, I read that God means good. I sincerely thank God, and our beloved Leader, for the revelation of this great truth which enables us to help ourselves and others out of the false sense of things, for it is through this knowledge of God and of man as His reflection that the healing is done. There is only one way to find this knowledge, and that is shown us in our text-book. Through its teachings we are awakened to know God's power, presence, and guidance, no matter what the selfish, deceptive sense of the human will may try to assert. Now we have great joy in our work for humanity and derive much help from the study of our Lesson-Sermons, and from our services, which mean so much to us. These services are not limited to the church walls, but their healing atmosphere extends into the world's consciousness.

It is interesting to see. in the great religious controversy. now going on in Great Britain, that there is a reaching out for something higher and holier than the human, variable sense of things,—something to rely on with safety and satisfaction,—a practical religion. In one of the leading newspapers from home (Scotland), in an article relative to this subject, reference was made to a gentleman who, on visiting one of the large cities and being given the names of the principal churches and ministers, asked, "But where is God's church?" It is there and it is here, and if we seek we find. Science and Health (p. I) says, "Desire is prayer." The spiritual signification of Church is given in the Glossary (p. 583). and the understanding of this Church is gained from studying our text-book.

IN recalling some cases of healing experienced by us, two instances present themselves. Our little girl was protected from a supposedly contagious fever, also a little niece was protected by destroying fear for the family. Besides these, cases of asthmatic and throat trouble, and fever, as well as business problems and various discordant conditions, have been overcome by the truth.
