When Christian Science first came to my notice it was through the healing of a sister, and afterward the healing of my wife. I made very light of it, as I thought it was nonsense; but when I found myself afflicted with rheumatic trouble of the most severe type, so that I had to be lifted into bed, I became alarmed, because I knew that my physician would prescribe morphine to give me ease. As I was already in the power of that monster, alcohol, I thought that my family would be better off with me out of the way than to have me become a morphine user. When the pain became so intense that I could stand it no longer, much to my wife's surprise I called for Christian Science, and through it I was entirely cured of the disease and also of the alcohol habit. This happened over seventeen years ago, and I have remained free ever since. It would take a volume to contain all that I would like to say in regard to the blessings that have come to my family since we have taken up Christian Science. One of my children was healed of a very severe bowel trouble. My friends think my case wonderful.—JOHN H. SHAFFNER, Fort Dodge, Ia.
