I came into Christian Science through reading our beloved...

I came into Christian Science through reading our beloved Leader's great work, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," which appealed to me as nothing else had ever done before. I had always read the Scriptures, but after reading this wonderful book I saw them in a different light. I saw how true and how applicable is the Word, and I also saw that it was for me. In June, 1901, I identified myself with the Christian Science church here, and took up the study of the Lesson-Sermons with earnestness, with gratitude to God, and to Mrs. Eddy, for the privilege. Up to this time I had suffered with all kinds of complaints, both mental and physical, and was frequently confined to the bed, attended by a physician. I had taken all kinds of medicines without receiving any permanent help; but in reading and studying Science and Health these troubles all left me,—a result which I attribute solely to the understanding gained by the study of this wonderful book.

On the 30th of May, 1902, while working in a sawmill, I received an injury which rendered me unconscious. Those about me at first thought I was dead, but seeing later that I was breathing a little, sent for a physician. When he arrived I had partly regained consciousness and was trying to realize the truth for myself, but the sense of excruciating pain rendered it difficult to do so. The doctor took me home in his carriage, but said he could not do anything for me. He afterwards said that he thought I could not recover as the injuries were so near the heart, and the suffering terrible. The ring and stem of my watch had been driven into the flesh. I at once sent for a Christian Science practitioner, who came as soon as possible, having been told that I was nearly killed and perhaps would die. Without any questioning the practitioner gave me treatment for a short time, after which I was free from pain. I fully dressed myself, came out of my room, and joined in conversation with my family. Two days later the pain returned in my side. I walked with some difficulty to the office of the practitioner and received treatment. From then until now I have been in perfect health, for which I feel truly grateful. Christian Science is my only physician. I have learned, to some extent at least, that divine Love is all-sufficient for me and mine.
