In 1865, while living in a small town in Mexico, I was taken suddenly with a severe illness, and in the excitement my husband and friend gave me a powerful drug without diluting it in water, which came near causing instant death. Through faithful work on their part, I revived, but ever afterwards was unable to take any solid food. A few years later I moved to New Orleans, where I was attended by two physicians, but no relief was ever obtained. I also consulted another doctor, who told me I could never be cured; that he himself had about the same trouble. He afterwards died of this complaint. After a number of experiments I finally abandoned all hope of ever being cured. I also had neuralgic trouble for a number of years; in fact the doctors told me I had a complication of diseases which made it impossible for me to be cured. In 1903 some friends advised me to try Christian Science, saying that they had been healed by it; but I refused to try it. About this time my son was preparing for an operation (the fourth), and I was induced to investigate Christian Science for him. While talking with the practitioner she asked me why I had my head bundled up in such a manner, and I explained to her that I had been compelled to keep my head wrapped up day and night for years, and that I was also very much in need of help. She told me that God did not make disease, and the air could not hurt me. As soon as I reached home I took off the wrappings from my head, and from that time have never suffered from the ailment. A few days afterwards I was taken with severe pains in my stomach, and sent for the practitioner. In about three treatments I was entirely healed of every trouble, and have ever since been a well woman.

Words cannot express my gratitude to God, and to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for Christian Science. Because she understood and lived this truth, I was healed.
