Christian Science came to me about two and a half years...
Christian Science came to me about two and a half years ago, and found me a physical wreck. For twelve years I had been a constant sufferer and each year added some new form of suffering, until some of the doctors said there was not a sound organ in my body except my lungs. For about ten years the doctors had told me that I would never be any better until I had an operation performed. I grew weaker and my suffering greater. Some of the doctors advised me not to consent to an operation, telling me that I would never live through it.
In July, 1902, I was taken suddenly ill and for several weeks lay in the hospital, seemingly at death's door. The doctors would have performed the operation, which they considered so necessary, at that time, had I not been so very weak. In September I was brought home, but I expected to go back to the hospital for the operation. I suffered constantly, although I was taking medicine all the time. I remained in this condition until January, 1903, when I grew worse, and my suffering was so severe that I could not rest day or night. After two weeks of increasing pain I was led to try Christian Science. After the first treatment I was relieved so much that I slept all night, and a serious symptom left me the first week, together with all the pain. I took seven weeks' treatment before I felt I was well, and now instead of dragging out a miserable existence I praise God for the health I enjoy. In connection with my restored health has come financial freedom. The long years of invalidism had been a constant drain financially. Doctor's bills, drug bills, and traveling expenses left us very little at the end of the year. The two months' experience at the hospital cost about seven hundred dollars. My healing under Christian Science was accomplished in seven weeks and the return made was thirty-five dollars. I feel very grateful that I was led into this truth.—Emma Vance Hancock, Topeka, Kan.
