It is now more than five years since the plague of consumption was stayed in our family by Christian Science, and I think it time to send in my thank-offering, out of love to God, and loyalty to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
In September, 1900, I was sent, hopeless and almost helpless, from Colorado to southern California, with the medical verdict that I would never return. Not wanting my relatives to know my condition, I stayed only a short time with them, going on to a little village off the coast of San Diego. There I began asking God, whom I believed to be far-off, to make me fit to come into His presence, little knowing of the cleansing process that was soon to be revealed to me through Christian Science. While in this place a few copies of the Sentinel were sent by a lady from Oceanside, marked, "Read and return." One was loaned me for a few days; it was the first Christian Science literature I had ever seen. From this white-winged messenger I learned that I was not praying aright, and I became very desirous of knowing more of this teaching.
Through great tribulation, and another experience with a doctor who plainly told me he could do nothing for me, I began the study of Christian Science. My healing was slow, but my faith never wavered; the assurance was given me from the first that this was the truth taught by Jesus, and I was healed. I write this with a desire that it may reach and gladded the hearts of all those who have helped me to begin this journey "from sense to Soul" (Science and Health, p. 566).—Inez Milton, Bloomington, Ill.
