Christian Science denies that matter is a part of immortal...

Adrian (Mich.) Times

Christian Science denies that matter is a part of immortal being. If the material body is necessary to immortal existence, then individual immortality must be a myth; because this material body is dissolved after death, and is then no part of the conscious or unconscious identity of man. Although the material body, at death, ceases to exist, yet the idea of man's individual immortality is inseparable from Christianity; wherefore Christianity teaches that man's permanent identity must be independent of a material body, and therefore wholly spiritual; i.e., in the image and likeness of God, Spirit. It is therefore reasonable to believe that matter is no part of man. How clearly Jesus saw this when he said, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh [matter] profiteth nothing." Beholding this same great fact, Paul said, "Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh," and, "the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh [matter]: and these are contrary the one to the other."
