When Science and Health was given me by a dear friend...

When Science and Health was given me by a dear friend in April, 1903, I little realized the change two years' study of that wonderful book could bring about in my consciousness. The possession of many material things is supposed to make life worth living, but though I had these I was unhappy, discontented,—struggling to make the best of things, but often wondering what the purpose of existence might be. Happily a kind of inherent optimism and pride kept me from voicing the queries that seemed unanswerable. Now all is changed. I have learned that life is worth living, and that there are innumerable opportunities for doing good in the best way, helping others to help themselves by knowing Truth.

By studying Science and Health I have been healed of astigmatism, after wearing glasses eight years; of hereditary kidney trouble, rush of blood to the head, and nervousness; but words are inadequate to express the wondrous spiritual awakening and uplifting which has come to me. I can only say, with deepest gratitude and joy, that while I have often wished Christian Science might have come to me before, I am truly thankful it came no later. Through our dear Leader's discovery of Christian Science the Bible is no longer a sealed book and I know that God is omnipresent.—Almira Winslow, Waltham, Mass.
