Many years ago I was asked to go to the home of a neighbor, with others, for the purpose of hearing what my friend called a strange doctrine. I was deeply impressed, and ordered a copy of Science and Health, which indeed proved to be a Key to the Scriptures, as it unlocked hidden treasures for me. Its logical and spiritual interpretation appealed to me, and I also recognized the healing power of Jesus the Christ, which is as applicable to this age as it was eighteen centuries ago. Notwithstanding my convictions, I did not then leave all for Christ. I was not continually about the Master's business, but was trying to serve God and the world,—living in awe of the world's opinion. I soon began to realize that I had received the truth mainly from an intellectual standpoint, although I had yearned from infancy for spiritual understanding which I did not possess. The leaven had been doing its work, and was only retarded by my not yielding wholly to the demands of divine Love. I now thank God that I was brought to a clear understanding of the truth, through the healing of physical infirmities. My ailment was heart trouble, the attacks becoming more frequent in the night. In desperation I called for medical aid, but received no permanent help. I then secured the services of a practitioner, who remained in our home for one month. During her stay she enabled me to discern that we are healed by laying "aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us." After passing through many struggles, six years have elapsed, and I have never had a return of the malady.
During the past year I have become fully aroused to my sense of duty, have been a faithful student, and no longer place human knowledge before divine understanding, or social pleasure before sacred duty. I have had many practical demonstrations, and my daily desire now is to yield myself wholly to the care of divine Love. How can I express sufficient gratitude to our Leader, who has brought this truth to suffering humanity, and who, through her consecration and demonstration, has enabled us to penetrate within the veil which obscures mortal vision.
