I read Science and Health through, five years ago, just as I would any other book, but laid it aside, saying that I could not understand it. Two years later I came to New York City for the purpose of going into a hospital to train for a nurse. I boarded with Christian Scientists and was asked to attend their services. I went a number of times before any impression was made upon me, then I began to see that Christian Science is the truth. I then went to the hospital and told my friend I had given up the idea of being a trained nurse.
I found another way to earn my living, and in all my spare time I studied Christian Science. Many were the battles I fought, but Truth was the victor through all. I have found that when I looked to Principle, and not to personality, I have never looked in vain. I have learned not to despise the day of small things, and that everything is of importance which helps to bring out harmony. Sometimes it has seemed as if I have had to stand with folded hands and wait for Truth to move upon the troubled waters, but when I have shut out material sense what a calm there has been! I have been able to turn away from what the physical senses said, and prove the nothingness of fever, a broken nose, sprained wrist, and faintness, also whooping cough, sick stomach, and other ailments. I have helped myself most when I have reached out to help others. I am indeed grateful to God, and to our Leader. Mrs. Eddy.
