It is truthfully said that if it were not for the omnipotent...

Pittsburg (Pa.) Despatch

It is truthfully said that if it were not for the omnipotent God back of all visible phenomena no results could be obtained through medicine, faith-cure, or Christian Science; but we would add that it is a demonstrable fact that the Divine Power can be reached more efficaciously when the human media are set aside. It is commendable that those who believe in the use of medicine should ask God to bless the medicine, but those of us who have undertaken the practice of Christian Science have proved that we may do still better by trusting God unreservedly. We are convinced that the success of our present prayers, as compared with that of our past petitions, is due to such implicit reliance upon the divine Mind, as excludes all material remedies.

It has been suggested that to turn one's back upon the material means and methods which have been so marvelously developed in recent years is to "turn one's back upon God." According to this logic one ought to affirm that in forsaking the time-honored remedies of the past we have turned our backs upon God, and that when in the future we shall have outgrown the material remedies which are now in vogue, and they shall have been replaced by better ones, we shall then be turning our backs still more directly upon God.

On the other hand, if it be proper to give up the imperfect medicines and practices for those which are better, perchance the forsaking of medicines altogether to depend upon God, as we have learned to do in Christian Science, may not, after all, be turning our backs upon God, but simply following the leadings of progress and turning our faces toward God.
