In the spring of 1897 a friend asked me to try Christian Science, and my response was, "Christian Science cannot help me."
In the winter of 1898 I was in a home where a lady had a shock. A doctor was called and came for a few days. He said nothing could help her, that she could live only a few days, and might pass away in a few hours. He could do nothing for her. A Christian Scientist who lived near was called in and came each day for a week. At the end of the week the lady was perfectly healed, her face and limbs being in their normal condition.
As I saw this lady growing better each and heard the Christian Scientist read, I thought perhaps I could be helped. I had been sick for nearly eight years with stomach trouble, and catarth of the head. I had tried all sorts of remedies and had the best doctors in the city, and could find relief for only a short time. The doctors did not think I would ever be well again, and a specialist said I would never be healed of the catarrh.
I asked this Christian Scientist if she would take my case. She talked with me for a few minutes and said that God had not given food power over me, that I could eat whatever I desired, that it would not hurt me. I was healed then of the stomach trouble, and have been able to eat everything I wished ever since. A little later the catarrh disappeared. During the first and second year, the fear of a return of the trouble had to be met a few times. No one can realize what it means to free but those who have been bound. This truth has also brought God so much nearer to me.
Words fail to express my gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and all our Christian Science literature.
