Christian Science maintains that God is Mind, and therefore...
Christian Science maintains that God is Mind, and therefore Mind is individual, one, and infinite. If this is not true, what did Paul mean when he admonished the early Christians to have the same Mind which was also in Christ Jesus? If man has the same Mind that Christ has, all men have the same Mind, and the unity of God's creation is apparent. For this desirable condition Christian Science is laboring, and it is surely a laudable enterprise, since Paul entreated his hearers to do this very thing.
The Christian Scientist is surprised to find a preacher of the gospel, or good tidings, who criticises us ascribing to God all power, all presence, and all knowledge or science, and denying that evil, sin, suffering, and death are instituted by Him, or have any existence in His perfect universe. It is certainly not good tidings to a weary world to insist, with a persistence worthy a better cause, that sin and disease are actualities, and that we cannot escape them, Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil and he spent all his time healing sin and sickness and overcoming death. Then sin, sickness, and death must be the works of the devil. Jesus called evil a liar, and the father of lies; then the devil's works or offspring,—sin, sickness, and death,—are lies. So Jesus called them and so Christian Science labels them, and as he destroyed them, so they can be destroyed to—day by the same Mind which was also in Christ Jesus.
