We are often asked by those out of Christian Science, In case of accident, of what use would Science be? and I think that my case of healing will answer this question.
While working in a flour-mill in Grand Forks I got my right hand caught in a belt and pulley, and the friction of the belt ground out the inside so that the bones in the back were exposed from the front, and the muscles were all burned off, so that the doctor said the hand would have to be taken off. But I believed in Science some, so I at once called in a Scientist. I was in great pain when she arrived, but she sat down and treated me, and in less than five minutes all pain left, and I was able to wash, and eat my supper. I never lost any sleep, and the next day I wrote a letter with my hand, and in five weeks I was back to work again, my hand as well and strong as ever. I wish to add that my wrist was also out of joint and I never knew when it went back in place.
This happened about thirteen years ago, and since then I have taken class instruction, and I am thankful to my teacher for her kind guidance and care, for I owe her much. I wish to express my love and thankfulness to our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for this truth which she has given to the world. It is indeed the bread of life which feeds and heals suffering humanity.—George E. Thompson, Ojata, N. Dak.
