Overcoming Fear

In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," and in all the other writings of Mrs. Eddy, there is nothing more frequently pointed out than that fear is the source of nearly, if not all, human woes, mental and physical, and that, in the understanding of this most important truth and the overcoming of fear, lies their destruction.

There is no material influence that so dominates and enslaves mankind, whether civilized or uncivilized, ignorant or cultured, old or young, as this fear. It is so incorporated into human nature that we are not fully cognizant of the extent of its subtle influence over mind and body until, through the teachings of Christian Science, it is uncovered to us, and then we begin faintly to comprehend the magnitude of the work before us in becoming so perfected through divine Love that all fear is eliminated from consciousness.

When we have made even a small beginning in this direction we are able to rejoice in some freedom from its enslavement, for we invariably find that each time we succeed in allaying fear of any nature through the application of the truth we have learned in Christian Science, we have also stilled the mental or physical turmoil it produced.
