I was afflicted with an inherited disease,—cancer,—my grandmother and an aunt had passed away with it. I took care of my aunt during the last two months of her illness. She was sent away from the hospital as a hopeless case, and we were unable to get a nurse to take care of her at any price. I was a great sufferer for years, and several of the best physicians who treated me said they could do very little more for me, as I had tuberculosis of the stomach and lungs, as well as cancer of the throat and head. The cancer came to the surface through my cheek under the right eye.
My suffering was very great when I began Christian Science treatment. The pain was almost immediately stopped, and while it returned at times, the treatment would always bring relief. As nearly as I can remember that was a little over two years ago.
During this time I was not confined to the house but attended to all my duties, going to and from the city when necessary and attending church regularly, though obliged to wear a heavy veil most of the time.
