I was working with my father, who was a physician,...

I was working with my father, who was a physician, when I was healed of pneumonia by reading Science and Health, which had been kindly lent to me by a neighbor. To mortal sense my father was angry; he wished me to work with him, and when he died intended leaving me this work and the fruitage of his invention which he considered the cure of all disease. My being healed was a great disparagement of his methods and he exhibited much antagonism, thinking through persecution to tire me of my purpose. I brooded over these things, and struggled in great poverty until I became familiar with right thinking through reading Science and Health given to me by my husband.

I am now coming to understand, slowly but surely, that man as God made him is no more the mortal man, than the gentle, kind, manly man, is the ugly ragged urchin of previous years. Mind is our medium of exchange, and we must give what we expect to receive. To talk this new language is one thing, and to know its meaning and be conscious of it, is another. God is Mind, and the only way for me to apprehend God is to think good, and just to the extent that I think this good will I receive benefits therefrom: as Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health to the effect that words are inadequate to express the truths of being! This seeming growth "from sense to Soul," is the removing of the mortal blot from the canvas of life by the divine artist. Christ Jesus was a law-giver who spoke to this earth mind years ago, and his appealing word of Truth has been re-echoed in our time by a woman who with a firm and loving hand is breaking to us anew the bread of life.—Mrs. D. B. Fitten, Nome, Alaska.
