For a long time I have felt a desire to add my mite to the columns of the Sentinel, the weekly visitor to our home, by which I have been so often helped and encouraged; yet error would say, You cannot word it like such a one; but when the desire came again I realized it was Love that prompts, and God is Love. The words of the hymn also came clearly to me, "Ceasing to give we cease to have, such is the law of love." I realize to-day more than ever this blessed truth. If our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, had not shared with us what Love had revealed to her, I should not have had this blessed understanding; so with these thoughts I say, How grateful and thankful I am for the many benefits received in Christian Science.
I could give many demonstrations of Christian Science in physical healing. One is a case of quinsy, which was met for me in Christian Science after the doctor had given up the case. He attended me two and three times a day, and at last he gave orders to get a spray, and if this did not relieve me, he said that was all he could do, for if it did not break within a certain length of time I would choke to death. This was the third time I had suffered from the trouble, and the doctor told me when I had it the second time, if I had it again I would never get over it; and the law seemed to be all powerful, for I had got to a stage where I could not speak, nor take a drop of liquid, not even the medicine the doctor left, nor could I lay my head on a pillow to rest. This was my condition for two weeks; but, thank God, I found and proved that this law of error had no real power.
A gentleman came to see my husband about some work, and he invited him into the parlor where I was propped up in the rocking-chair. He knew he was a Scientist, but I did not. My husband then commenced to tell him my trouble, as I could not speak, and he in reply quoted the Scripture about Mary and Martha, and as my name was Martha my attention was arrested. He talked for a while, telling me that God's word was sharper than a two-edged sword, and that there was help for me; he also told me that God never made anything to discomfort His children.
