The Dividing Line
In Christian Science it is absolutely necessary to distinguish the wrong from the right and to know that there is no middle ground to occupy; that a thing is either right or wrong, and that we must at all times be on the side of right to work out our problems successfully.
How shall we know that we are working rightly when the way does not seem clear? By holding steadfastly to the fact that "Truth, through her eternal laws, unveils error. It causes sin to betray itself, and sets upon error the mark of the beast" (Science and Health, p. 542), and that we cannot be deceived in the matter under consideration because God cannot be deceived and He is guiding us; that His law will uncover to us the error in our problem. Then, when the error is uncovered, revealing—as it sometimes does—a state of consciousness that is very degraded, we need not fear nor be dismayed, for the same understanding that was sufficient to uncover the error is also sufficient to destroy it utterly if we will apply it fearlessly. Thus we may demonstrate the truth of the following Scripture:—
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."
