The True Preaching

Some one wisely said, "Let yourself, and not your words, preach for you," and this is good counsel for Christian Scientists as well as for others. Some of us have found by bitter experience that persistent endeavor, through words only, to convert our friends to our views has resulted disastrously, and that by our mistaken efforts we have but succeeded in erecting additional barriers in the pathway of those whom we have sincerely desired to lead to Truth.

A fundamental proposition of Christian Science is that it heals the sick, but the simple declaration of this fact is not enough to convince the world that it is true. In this, as in every other line of human endeavor, the world asks for proofs, and we are placed at a disadvantage if the evidence be not forthcoming.

Convincing proof of the efficacy of Christian Science in humanity's behalf must come through the healing of the sick and the regeneration of the sinner, and no mere preaching, in the commonly accepted meaning of that word, can take the place of active works which speak for themselves.
