I feel I ought to express my gratitude for the help and good received through the truth as revealed in Science and Health. Three years ago I was very sick in San Diego with a nervous trouble for which I had been trying to get help through other sources, but kept getting worse. I was in despair, for I had already lost faith in materia medica; but remembering a conversation with a friend who told me of her healing in Science I concluded to send for a Christian Science practitioner.

I will never forget that day. The practitioner spent about two hours in conversation in this subject, and in treating me. When she left she assured me I would be all right, and that the next morning, being Sunday, she would call for me to go to church. I remember thinking that such a thing would be impossible. After a little my mother had occasion to go down town and when she returned she found me starting supper. I ate a hearty meal and was up all the evening.

That night, for the first time in a week or more, I allowed my mother to sleep in her own room, saying I was not afraid to be alone. Next morning I got breakfast and when church time came was ready. The error presented itself several times in the next few days, but I had felt "the power of the Word" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 398), and I knew Christian Science was truth, that it could and does heal, heal, and what it had done once it could do again.
