The wednesday evening meetings of First Church of Christ, Scientist...
Montreal Star
The Wednesday evening meetings of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Closse Street, differ from those of other evangelical churches, in this : that in the Christian Science Churches, many testimonies are given of physical healing as the direct result of the spiritual uplifting which comes through the understanding of God in Christian Science. On Wednesday evening last, after the opening exercises, a gentleman spoke of the great spiritual light which had dawned on him, bringing comfort and hope when he was in despair and great physical suffering, and rapidly sinking into invalidism. Then this religion of Jesus came to him, bringing peace, fulfilling the promise of Jesus. The Comforter came, leading him not only to believe in God, but to know God, and to realize that "in Him," as Paul says, "we live, and move, and have our being." The understanding of this great fact restored him to health four years ago; and to-day he is a strong, well man, rejoicing to carry to the sick and sinning this cup of cold water, the healing and saving power and presence of Christ, and he would be ungrateful to God if he did not thus publicly acknowledge his thankfulness to him for this evidence of His boundless love, and for His revealing this through that noble woman, Mary Baker Eddy, to whom the world is so greatly indebted.
Another gentleman said that recently a lady was taken suddenly very ill, and was suffering great pain. Her husband immediately sought the aid of a Christian Scientist, and he was thankful to God that in this century it is possible to see the promises in the Bible fulfilled. This lady was rapidly healed, relief and freedom from suffering were the immediate results, and in a short time the lady was about the house as usual.
Others spoke of benefits received, and expressed their gratitude to God for Christian Science, and for the light which it had shed upon the Bible, making it really the Word of Life.—Montreal Star.
