The Indwelling Word

Many times I have felt the desire to express gratitude for our Hymnal. At one time, when my work seemed to be such that I had very little time to study and read, I determined to learn at least one hymn a week. This I did for eight months, and I found that I could sing about my work when it seemed difficult otherwise to direct my thought into right channels. By the time the morning's work was finished my thought would have been so cleared that I could go to work giving my treatments without delay.

Many times, through the realization of the words sung, error has disappeared. One time, when one of the "wee tots" had lain in a stupor all day, and I had tried to realize harmony with no effect, I started to sing the hymn, "In atmosphere of Love Divine." When I reached the line, "And holds you perfect in his Love," she opened her eyes, smiled, sat up, and was her bright little self all the evening.

During another busy year I committed to memory the Christian Science platform, in the chapter "Science of Being." This was a great help to me at the time, and since then I have taken one section for each day, thus going over them all once a month, and I find that each day's need is often supplied by the few lines for that day.
