My attention was first called to Christian Science through the healing of my sister, who had been an invalid for years. I had never been considered an invalid, but sometimes I wished I were, so that I might lay down the duties which I felt unable to perform. I had chronic catarrh and dyspepsia, and there was a general breaking down of the system. I know now that it was being in the world without a God to love, that brought on this lethargic condition, for when I began reading Science and Health and learned that God is Love,—Love that must be reflected and lived by man,—new hope and life sprang up within me, and all things became new.
I had some treatment, but I did not know when my physical troubles left me; I was so rejoiced at finding a good, wise, and loving God that I thought little about my troubles and they gradually disappeared.
My path in demonstrating Christian Science has not always been strewn with roses. There have been many thistles to uproot, but I have always been cheered by the thought that every thistle—error—which we uproot through Love is forever destroyed, and a flower of beauty and infinite blessing springs up in its place.
