Fog

In trying to define God and man more fully to my consciousness, I began comparing mortal mind to a fog, or mist. When looking through the mist, objects are seen through it more or less distinctly according to the density of the mist. So when mortal mind tries to blind us with error, or befog our understanding, the path of Truth appears obscured, and it seems hard to discern the perfect man. But when the mists (mortal mind) have been cleared away by demonstration of the Principle, then we do come out again into the sunlight of Truth, and see man as perfect. Often when looking out of my window on foggy mornings, I have said, "The fog is so heavy that I cannot even see the houses across the street," never for one moment thinking the houses were not there.

Oh, why cannot we just know and feel God's presence at all times and under all circumstances? At times a sense of discouragement comes to us, and it seems as though we were not advancing. It is then that I begin comparing my life before coming into Science to my life after taking up the study. Then I know that I have advanced, and my heart is filled with gratitude for what understanding I have. My daily prayer is to know more of God, Good, and less of self.—C. L. S., Tacoma, Wash.
