"Feed the Famished Affections."

WE find these words in the spiritual interpretation of the Lord's Prayer as given in our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker G. Eddy.

The spiritual sense of these words came to me a few days ago as never before. It seemed as if I had caught a glimpse of our Mother's thoughts when she gave them to the world. The more I dwell on them, the more I see their high import. They are the pivot on which the world must be brought into tune with the Infinite.

It is the spiritual bread that the whole world is famishing for: the bread of kindness, pity, compassion, and forgiveness. Perhaps this can best be illustrated by the child-thought which Jesus said was the true heavenly thought. How do we look upon a little child? With a patient, tender, loving, drawing, kindly feeling,—a forgetfulness of self, with no thought in our hearts of judging, condemning, accusing, or persecuting. Now these little ones are God's children, and are famishing for the tender care that only Love can give. Love alone can kindle the divine spark into a flame that will burn up the error of human sense,—of human will.
